Graduation Party- Kids Buffet

Graduation Party-Kids Buffet

My favorite thing at the graduation party was that we had  an area in our yard designated as the kids zone with the kids tables, a teepee, crayons, paper, and a clothes line to hang the pictures they drew and best of all-A KIDS BUFFET!  What little kid would choose to have a pulled pork sandwich over dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets?  The kids buffet also had assorted juice boxes, veggie cups with ranch in the bottom, and of course any kids buffet wouldn't be complete without ketchup.  When decorating the kids buffet table I kept with our retro travel and adventure theme with a small globe, retro toy camera, and tiny wagon.

Why are kids more likely to eat their veggies when they are displayed in a darling red wagon, in their own little yellow cup, with a spoonful of ranch?  I can't explain it, but it's a fact.

I'm so excited to share the pictures of Queen Bee's graduation party.  It was a wonderful event, filled with people who love her and have been a support and inspiration to her.  It was a time for her dad and me to celebrate the amazing girl she is and all of her accomplishments.  Can you tell we are super proud of her?  The quote pictured above on her graduation announcement was the inspiration for the theme of the party.  Queen Bee has an adventurous spirit and a enormous heart.  She has already traveled quite a bit, including participating in a humanitarian program to build a kindergarten classroom last summer in Fiji.  And she plans on continuing to travel abroad and help those less fortunate while pursuing her college education.  I wanted her party to reflect her and the hopes and dreams she has for the future.  She also has her mother's love for anything vintage and retro, so I wanted to have a playful retro vibe to the decor.

Here are all the details for where I found the things I used to create the party. For the items I found on Amazon, you can click on the link in the sidebar for more information.  On our buffet tables I used a retro globe from Dot and Bo.  I fell in love with these darling bright retro suitcases I found on Amazon.  I also used some vintage cameras and cake plates from my collections.  The globe and suitcases were the jumping off point for the color scheme of the party so I was thrilled to find  these darling Meri Meri Charms and Stripes Hanging Pinwheels that I mixed with these Meri Meri Toot Sweet Pinwheels, they were the perfect combo of colors. The tiered chip server was from Target and I lined it with gingham printed waxed paper from World Market.  Finally, throughout the party, I used scrabble letters to spell out words related to travel.

Birthday Party Ideas-Mermaid Party

Birthday Party Ideas-Mermaid Party

This Little Mermaid party was Queen Bee's first friends party.  We wanted to make our living room feel like it was "under the sea".  To create this effect we hung a fishing line across the living room ceiling and then hung streamers in various shades of blue from the fishing line.  This created a wall of streamers that the girls could walk through to enter "the sea" on the other side.  Once "under the sea", we had a bubble machine filling the room with bubbles and clear balloons blown up all over the floor to look like giant bubbles.  I hung printable fish and sea creatures from The Little Mermaid all over the ceiling with fishing wire and had plastic shells and sea creatures all over the floor.  There was a giant treasure chest with Little Mermaid crowns and necklaces for the girls.  I wish I would have taken more pictures.

I wanted to think of a way to make the girls feel like they were a mermaid so I came up with the idea to wrap their legs together with green plastic wrap.  It was perfect!  They had so much fun waddling around like mermaids.  We played different relay games waddling and swimming back and forth across the room, they loved it!

Here are some more great Mermaid party ideas I've found around the web.  Click to enlarge and click on the links below for more info.

Birthday Ideas-Bowling Party

Birthday Ideas-Bowling Party

This week my baby girl turns 18 years old!  I am in shock, denial and a deep depression .  This can't be happening.  It went by WAY TO FAST.  Help me.  Tears.

I'm trying to work through some of my emotions, so I thought it might be fun to share some of The Queen Bee's past birthday parties this week.  Hopefully they will give you a little spark of inspiration.  Please keep in mind that these all happened MANY, MANY years ago.  More tears.  Part of me wasn't going to share them because they aren't anything particularly special, but I'm keeping it real here.  These are long before Pinterest, Blogs, and Instagram.  I can only imagine how much more overboard I would go these days. More tears.  Why can't they just stay little????

Let's start this week off with the Sassy Strikers Bowling Party.  This was such a fun party.  I designed a "bowling shirt" for each girl.  The girls bowled and played arcade games and we ate cake and greasy bowling alley food.  How could this not be a party?

Below I've shared a couple of pictures from our party and some other sites that I've linked to with other great bowling party ideas.  Click on image to enlarge.  Click on links below for more information.
